About Us

Nichols Pickles and Preserves

The Story Behind Our Yorkshire Kitchen

Surrounded by the fields and hedgerows of the Yorkshire countryside, our love of making preserves began in our own kitchen garden. Summers gave us sweet sun-warmed strawberries, autumn gave us freshly picked apples. Nothing is better than a meal with ingredients that have only travelled meters to arrive on your plate, but the abundance of produce meant there was more than we could manage to eat whilst it was still fresh. What wasn’t gifted to friends and family was quickly turned into preserves that could be stored. The kitchen was often filled with the scent of spices. Experimenting with recipes for those first preserves was exciting. The simple joy of keeping a season of hard work alive became part of family life and, very quickly, grew into a passion. Delicious preserves shared around the table, enjoyed together with our children, have given us some very fond memories. Our garden taught us to recognise great produce at its best, knowledge that goes into every jar we make today.

Through the Seasons

In the heart of Yorkshire, the seasons set the rhythm of our kitchen. From the first soft fruits of summer to the deep rich flavours of autumn, every jar begins with high quality produce. As Nichols Pickles & Preserves has grown, we have formed relationships with an increasing number of local growers. Our strawberries are grown just 10 minutes away from Howden, East Yorkshire. It is carefully selected ingredients like these that go into our hand-crafted preserves, just as though they were coming from our own kitchen garden.

Our Kitchen in Howden

We take great pride in creating high quality preserves. Our attention to detail goes beyond our recipe book though. Our kitchen holds a five-star food hygiene rating from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. This gives you the reassurance that our products not only taste great, but are made to the highest standards too.

Beyond the Nichols Pickles & Preserves Kitchen

Our preserves are stocked by independent shops and local businesses, and are used by restaurants and caterers that share our love of great food and who value carefully crafted products. You can also buy direct from our online shop, or find us at farmers’ markets, country fairs, and food festivals where we enjoy meeting people and sharing our jars in person.

However you find our preserves, the jars we make today provide more than flavour. They bring a touch of homemade comfort to share at your table. We are delighted to share the tastes of our kitchen garden inspired preserves with you.
